It is important to start your children with good dental health early in life. Teaching them the proper way to take care of their teeth is essential. Tooth decay shows up in 50% of 7 year old children and close to 80% of 17 year old children here in America. As parents, it is your roll to teach your child good oral health.
Limit food & beverages with sugar.
For your infant and toddler, clean their gums using a wet soft cloth or soft tooth brush after each feeding. This stimulates the gum tissue and cleans food from their teeth and gums.
Starting at the age of 2 to 3, teach your child the proper way to brush their teeth but continue to brush for them until at least age 6. (Our staff will be happy to assist you if you have questions.)
Floss between you child's teeth until aproximately age 7 at which time they may be able to learn to floss on their own.
Set up a chart with stars or prizes so each time your child brushes their teeth, they can get a star, and before long, it becomes second nature.
Set up regular 6 month dental check ups so we can catch cavities before they become a problem and reinforce oral hygiene.
Ask us about dental sealants, a preventive measure to protect the permanent 6 and 12 year molars.
Check to see if your water at home is fluoridated. If it is not, you may want to have fluoride supplements.
